We seek an experienced Import Branch Manager to oversee and optimize our import operations in our Cranford, New Jersey branch. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of freight forwarding, customs regulations, and supply chain management. 🛃🧑💼A U.S. Customs Broker License (CHB) is strongly preferred. This role will be responsible for leading a dedicated team, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, driving branch performance, and maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Management
- Oversee daily import operations, including ocean and air shipments, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of cargo.
- Manage and coordinate freight forwarding and customs clearance processes, maintaining strict adherence to US Customs regulations and company standards.
- Develop and implement SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) to streamline operations and improve overall efficiency.
- Regulatory Compliance & Customs Brokerage
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including Customs Border Protection (CBP) and other government agency requirements.
- Stay current on changes to international trade regulations, tariff classifications, and other key regulatory updates.
- Oversee and guide team members in preparing customs entry documentation, classification of goods (HTS), and other vital paperwork.
- If licensed, serve as the primary point of contact for U.S. Customs Brokerage operations, leveraging CHB credentials to expand service offerings.
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of import coordinators, entry writers, and related staff.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, identify training needs, and foster a positive, goal-oriented work environment.
- Collaborate with senior management and HR to recruit top talent and ensure adequate staffing levels.
- Client Relations & Business Development
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and ensuring high customer satisfaction.
- Develop relationships with carriers, vendors, and government agencies to maintain competitive service rates and reliable transit times.
- Identify and pursue opportunities for business growth within the region, leveraging market insights and client feedback.
- Financial & Administrative Oversight
- Monitor branch profitability, including budgeting, cost management, and forecasting.
- Track KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) such as on-time delivery rates, compliance metrics, and customer satisfaction scores.
- Prepare regular reports for senior management and assist with strategic planning initiatives.

Qualifications
- Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, International Business, or related field preferred; equivalent work experience considered.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in freight forwarding, customs brokerage, or global logistics.
- Proven track record in managerial or supervisory roles within the import/logistics sector.
- Licenses & Certifications
- U.S. Customs Broker License (CHB) strongly preferred.
- Any additional trade-related certifications (e.g., CCS, CES) are a plus.
- Skills & Competencies
- Comprehensive knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations, HTS classification, and international shipping documentation.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills with an ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with freight/logistics software.
